The news these days is filled with information about your body’s great need for increased antioxidant protection. So you may have heard information about how antioxidants can help to slow down the aging process. Maybe you heard how a greater intake of antioxidants can increase your immunity and prevent you from getting sick.

Making sure you get the antioxidant protection your body needs is essential to your overall optimum health. However, while eating plenty of fruits and vegetables filled with antioxidants is great, the best way to get the dose of free electrons your body requires is by simply walking barefoot on the ground.

Free electrons provide the greatest level of antioxidants and they are literally free and plentiful through direct contact with the Earth.

The Science Behind Earthing

To better understand grounding (aka earthing), you need to first consider the basics behind your physical being. Your body has electrical conductors due to the presence of charged ions, commonly referred to as electrolytes. These charged ions are carried in body fluids like blood. Because of these charged ions being in body fluids, those fluids become excellent electrical conductors. Be advised that free electrons can move about your body without being dissolved in fluid.

The transfer of electrons to your body from the Earth is significant and has been proven through scientific research to have a huge impact on the inflammatory process occurring in your body. Basically, you need the transfer of Earth electrons to reduce the damage being caused in your body by free radicals.

Reactive oxygen species, ROS, is another term describing free radicals. Free radicals are atom clusters that are missing an electron in their outer shell. Essentially these are the molecules responsible for the process of oxidation and they spend their time seeking out other healthy molecules for stealing an electron from them, thus increasing the number of free radicals present in your body. Bear in mind this oxidation process is completely natural and is the driving force for the reason you age.

While the presence of ROS in your body is important, they also cause damage to healthy tissue. For example, if you suffer an injury, ROS is carried to the injured area via white blood cells. ROS are so positively charged, they not only react to the cellular damage from an injury, but also to healthy surrounding tissue. This is the reason your need to supply your body with the negative charges that come from the electrons you get from Earthing.

Chronic inflammation has been proven to cause many serious diseases. Therefore preventing it is an essential part of you being healthy and reducing your chances of disease. Reducing inflammation in your body can allow you to avoid issues like arthritis and some gastrointestinal troubles like inflammatory bowel syndrome. Earthing promotes the neutralization of free radicals, thus increasing your joint mobility and decreasing pain. Your body is controlled in great part by the autonomic nervous system, ANS. Many extremely important bodily functions depend on the signals from this part of your nervous system.

The electrons you receive through Earthing can allow the near perfected function of the ANS. When the ANS experiences the benefits of grounding, you will feel healthier due to proper body functioning taking place. Your pain from headaches will go away and you may have a greater appetite. Many people have reported how their stress levels are easier to handle when they take time to make contact with the Earth each day. Keep in mind the electron transfer happens as soon as you step a barefoot on the ground. Because of this rapid exchange, you will also begin to feel the soothing effects of those electrons entering your body immediately as well.

Many people never associate the body’s need for antioxidants with stress reduction. However, how your body handles stress determines how you do. Parts of your nervous system have a great impact on how you react during stressful circumstances. The sympathetic nervous system gets you ready for a stressing occurrence while the parasympathetic nervous system helps to relax you. By providing the electrons necessary for the strongest antioxidant action, you are able to deal with stress easier and have fewer health problems because of it.

Consider how many people have suffered heart attacks, strokes and brain aneurysms due to being under too much stress for too long while their bodies are not up to optimum health. Imagine if those people had known that walking out in the yard barefoot could have helped them to avoid these serious health issues. Empathics can especially benefit from this free and abundant therapy.

Getting Back To Mother Earth And Spiritual Resonance

While the many health benefits associated with grounding are important, you should also know there is another reason you might feel a kinship to the Earth while walking barefoot. The energy connection that flows between your physical being and the Earth creates a special kind of spirituality you may not be aware of. This energy connection is special because it is ages old and wise.

The connection of the human species to Earth energy is phenomenal and allows for proper functioning: physically, mentally and emotionally. Consider how depression causes people to have skin problems like acne and to feel generally ill all over. When you are depressed or sad, your physical being experiences that sadness and depressions on a deeply cellular level.

Being depressed and sad also takes a huge toll on your spirit, making you feel depleted and soulless to some extent. These are issues that reconnecting to the Earth can remedy and it does so quickly due to the wisdom of knowing your life could literally depend on the timing of energy transference.

Somewhere along the line during the development of the modern world, society has lost sight of the place it came from. Older people today, especially those descended from the American Indians, can tell you about Mother Earth and how she has the ability to not only heal, but to also provide you with spiritual redemption and clarification for your very existence. This is the reason the altars built by American Indians were made of dirt.

The soil for them was a distinct life force that gave freely to those that simply asked. Asking only took you sitting or lying on the bare ground, allowing the energy from the Mother Earth to penetrate your being.

The American Indians were not the only older generation that knows the power of the Earth. Many older Americans believed in allowing children to play in the dirt for hours at a time. The children that play in the dirt sleep better at night. The basis for this old time belief has even been scientifically found to be true today. Sleep can be improved many times over by interacting with the Earth. Walking barefoot, lying on your back while making shapes out in the clouds or star gazing at night can be great ways to relax and get a healthy dosing of Mother Earth and her natural energizing medicine.

Hi everyone, below is a guest post from a personal friend of mine, Kathy Hall. She has been a practicing empath for a few years now, harnessing her energy, and helping many people like you and I along the way. Please read her story below and return the energy by leaving your comments below.

My father used to tell me “You can’t save the world,” and now my husband tells me “You worry too much about other people’s problems”. What my father and husband do not understand is I cannot help but worry about others. Like many of you out there, I feel their pain intensely as though it was my own.

I wonder about the people living in the streets and if there are children starving in my town. I can’t walk or drive past the person holding a sign saying “will work for food” without crying and feeling hunger pains in my gut. When the television commercials about animals in shelters come on, I shed tears.

Looking into the eyes of a kitten that is lonely or a dog that has suffered at the hands of a cruel person takes my breath, suffocating me with their pain. If I had my way, I would take them all home with me and protect them, all the animals and all the downtrodden people in the world.

These are some of the traits of an empath, a kind of person I did not know I was until a few years ago.

I met another me, a person that could pick up on my emotions the moment they were formed in my heart, before I could voice anything about them. I am the kind of person that sees and feels beauty in the ugliest things while also feeling and seeing the good in the cruelest of people.

The greatest trait of an empathic person is their high level of sensitivity to other people’s feelings.

Empathic people can pick up on someone’s body language and understand what they are feeling, even if they have never met the person in the past. Standing in the grocery checkout can be emotionally trying when you are able to feel other’s pain around you.

Some days, it seems I have a low level of this type of sensitivity. On other days, I am quite overwhelmed by the emotions of people around me. The person I met that awakened me to empathy is still my best friend and comrade in life. She never tells me I cannot save the world. She only smiles and tells me “I feel you”.

Of all the kinds of people in the world, I think empaths have the greatest abilities to actually live life to the fullest, so to speak. I have often wondered what it would feel like not to feel others around me like I do or what it would feel like not to be able to draw anything I want. What if I did not care about the turtle trying to get across the road? What if I did not care about the older people living in nursing homes all over the world?

What if I was not worried about taking care of all the hungry children on the planet and always trying to figure a way to do so? I think I would lead a seriously boring existence. Empathic people have a lust for life and are listeners to the sounds of nature while also being the listeners of all people.

I find that people choose me to tell their innermost thoughts to, their problems they cannot solve or they tell me about the pain they feel about a particular circumstance or situation they are worried over. This happens to me with my closest friends and with people I have never met before.

Once, while shopping for coffee in the grocery store, there came an old man. He began looking for a particular kind of coffee. I could feel him hurting in some strange way while he was looking for it. I felt something there, so I offered to help him find his brand.

Turns out, it wasn’t the coffee that was causing him the pain. It was the fact he was looking for the brand his recently deceased wife always chose and he couldn’t remember it. He was distraught because he couldn’t remember it. His pain about his wife and the thought of forgetting her in any way, right down to the brand of coffee she liked, was the pain I was absorbing while standing next to him in the aisle.

My first instinct was to help him and that is always my first instinct. My grandmother once said my nurturing nature would someday get me into trouble. So far, it has only allowed me to see another side of people that most everyone else never notices.

Spirituality is an aspect of life most people know about and they probably have some sort of view about it. Maybe you have a particular faith you hold dear to your heart or maybe you just strive to be a good person. I find that being a spiritual empath allows me to embrace all religions and no religions at the same time. I can look into the sky and know there may be a heaven up there while also looking into the sky and seeing only space and the atmosphere.

I have a spiritual outlook on every aspect of life that leads me to many questions about my existence, which leads me to another thing my dad always said: “ You ask too many questions that can never be answered”. I have never believed in my heart that there is never an answer for any question one thinks up. The same way I believe there is no such thing as a dumb question I guess.

However, I know from my personal experience in simple, everyday life that’s true, natural born empaths are deeply spiritual in all things, living or non-living. I spent many years studying religions and relishing in every aspect of them, amazed at the spiritual energy the world holds in it. My energy aura was being stimulated and I had no idea it was happening.

Once you are able to stand back and look at yourself and know what being an empath means, you will have glorious moments of realization, a satisfaction and peace will envelop you that is long lasting and in many ways, protective.

One part of being empathic I find harder to explain is the part about being able to see reasons in why some occurrences take place. Maybe you have found yourself saying: “Wow! That was weird. What if I hadn’t done this or what if I had went to this certain place? I could be dead or hurt really bad!” Maybe you feel the fates have helped you narrowly escape unwanted circumstances in your life. I used to always wonder about why those weird things seemed to happen to me a lot.

The reason is very simple, they happen to everyone, all the time. But it’s different for us. Just being perceptive of events happening and asking why they occurred is the difference. I have finally found it easier to simply say” Everything happens for a reason” rather than trying to explain those reasons in a more specific manner. Over analyzing tends to be a huge energy drain. I look for the threads in every occurrence and delight in knowing all events in life are connected in one way or another.

Ultimately, the traits of an empath means having the utmost, sincere, and unabated observance of life and of everything and everyone in it. While I have read that other empathic people are outgoing and have no problems at parties and such, I find myself preferring to stay at home with my dog and my writing.

I watch the world from another angle and am one that is superiorly sensitive and sometimes too forgiving. However, I would not trade my deep sense of real empathy for anything or anyone in the world. Being able to feel life while living it is truly an extraordinary experience, especially when you become aware you are doing so and what you are really all about. When you know the reasons why you cry at the drop of a dime and you know the reasons why you hurt when someone else does, life becomes more fulfilling than anything you could ever imagine.

When I was a kid, drawing, painting and all things artsy came naturally to me. As I grew into a teen, I began writing in addition to painting and drawing. I would spend hours in my room listening to music and writing or drawing. Little did I know then I was not just a talented introvert as my mother would tell her sisters and friends.

I was practicing some of the traits of being an empath. I guess you can say these traits were innate this whole time. But then I met my empathic sister and began learning more about me and why I am sensitive and easily drawn to others pain and emotions, I thought my creativity was because of my zodiac sign, Pisces. I read horoscopes every day and  up until now, the research I have done has not led me to believe that my zodiac sign has anything to do with being empathic, but time will tell as I keep on following the journey of learning more about what this ability truly means.

I really do believe this is a life journey and the more we read and interact with others of our kind, the easier it is to go through life.

Some aspects of feeling another seems almost supernatural to me. I don’t mean anything like psychic ability or reading other’s minds like in the movies. I mean ‘feeling’ someone from a long distance, as in from one country to another. The empathic person that is aware of someone else being an empath can increase this level of emotional sensitivity.

I found this out when I first talked to people online in chat or on social media websites. I found one person I could feel thinking of me. I thought I was a little crazy for a while and did not disclose this information to anyone I knew or even didn’t know. In fact, I met this person a year or so prior to becoming aware of the fact I was an empath. So it seemed even stranger to me I felt someone was thinking about me from miles and miles away. However, one morning, that particular person was online and told me what I was doing and thinking at a particular hour the evening before.

Turned out, my empathic intuition was true and that person was thinking of me and I could feel it. While this sort of experience may sound fantastic to most people, the empaths that realize the pain and emotions they absorb from other would find it nothing out of the ordinary realm of things. I wonder still if it was because we are both empathic and highly sensitive to others.

If you are wondering why you feel the pain you feel when talking to someone who’s sad or if you feel as though the world is trying to swallow you up in one gulp sometimes, stop and consider the reasons why you feel these kinds of things. Being empathic can be a blessing and allow you to experience life on the highest of levels. Learning more about whom and what you are is essential to feeling whole and for being able to be at peace with your empathic personality once and for all.

I always took the people I encountered in life, the articles, and books I read as signs and tools to give me the strength and power to learn more about myself. I joined communities online and even started local meetups through craigslist. But being the introvert that I am, I found reading and one on one conversations with fellow empaths more therapeutic than large groups. That was my inspiration to write this article I feel that I’m speaking to each person one on one.

If you need more of a step by step approach in conquering your energy, I highly recommend the empath toolkit for those who have different learning styles. In addition to text, the toolkit contains audio seminars, as well as personal coaching and webinar style courses of your choice. The information and knowledge the toolkit contains has helped thousands of empaths around the world, including myself and I have no doubt it can help you too.

Just remember, there’s only one test you can take to truly knowing if you’re an empath and that test is easy. Just look inside your self and your connection to this world.

Thank you for taking the time to read my journey and I truly hope it helps you overcome any negative energies you may have lingering in your life
